About The Project

Jito is a Solana project known for liquid staking and for the Jito-Solana validator client, which lets validators earn extra fees. The Jito Foundation explained the airdrop in two posts, one on eligibility and allocation and one on claiming.

Earlier text on this page described a points scheme in general terms.

Why This Airdrop Matters

The retrospective airdrop covered 10% of total supply, 100,000,000 JTO. Eligibility required at least 100 Jito Points before 25 November 2023, which covered 9,852 unique addresses. Allocation used tiers instead of a linear model, so smaller holders received a proportionally larger reward relative to their stake. The Foundation's post lists 15,000,000 JTO for validators, and Trust Wallet's breakdown of the rest does not line up cleanly with it, so treat the Foundation's post as the authority.

The claim window opened on 7 December 2023 at 11 a.m. ET, the token generation date, and recipients had 18 months to claim, after which unclaimed tokens moved to the DAO treasury's Realms wallet. Half was claimable at launch and the other 50% unlocked linearly over 12 months. Validators running Jito-Solana claimed through an open-source command-line tool and signed with their identity keypair.

The ten-thousand-address scale is small beside most airdrops, which meant each recipient received a significant amount. Tiering gave smaller holders a better ratio, a deliberate attempt to avoid concentrating the drop in a few large wallets.

An 18-month window is among the longest we have seen, and the claim period has now ended. Anyone who missed it should treat any "late claim" offer as a scam.

Trust Wallet's article says 80% of the 100 million went to Jito Points Program participants, with smaller shares for liquidity providers and early SOL stakers.

Liquid staking on Solana lets users keep earning rewards while holding a token that can be used elsewhere, but the arrangement concentrates stake with a few large providers, which has consequences for network decentralisation. A governance token tied to such a protocol gives holders a vote on fees and MEV revenue sharing.

Recipients should consider whether they want to hold voting rights, how revenue is shared with stakers, and what the lock-up or vesting terms say before treating the airdrop as a simple gift.

Participation Guide

The 18-month window closed in mid-2025. If you claimed, check the Jito Foundation's documentation for staking and governance options, and note that the vesting period has ended. Do not use third-party claim tools. If you run a validator, read the Foundation's published terms on rewards and the client's security record.
