About The Project
Anyone searching for an ApeCoin airdrop is usually remembering March 2022, when APE appeared in the wallets of people who owned Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs. The Block reported that debut on 17 March 2022. There was no ICO. The token was handed to NFT holders and then released to the wider market.
The token belongs to the ecosystem around Yuga Labs, the company behind Bored Ape. Its later project, ApeChain, is a Layer 2 network meant to give games and collectibles in that ecosystem cheaper transactions than Ethereum itself.
Why This Airdrop Matters
The claim window is shut
Eligible holders had 90 days from launch to claim through the ApeCoin website. That window ended in the summer of 2022, so owning a Bored Ape today does not unlock any APE retroactively. A later listing on AirdropAlert marks the ApeChain testnet airdrop as closed too, which means both known distributions are finished.
A note on governance
Earlier text on this page described APE as a vote-giving DAO token. One source we found says that is no longer accurate: formal DAO voting no longer applies, and governance authority sits with an entity called ApeCo. That claim rests on a single secondary source, so read the current governance documents before relying on it either way.
Why we rewrote this page
The previous version described an active airdrop and was padded with repetitive, meaningless wording. It also promised rewards that did not exist. Because "free APE" is exactly the lure scammers use, we think an accurate dead-end is more useful to readers than an invitation.
