About The Project

Dymension is a Cosmos-based modular platform for launching "RollApps", application-specific rollups. Its airdrop coincided with the mainnet launch in early February 2024, and Decrypt reported it as worth over $390 million.

Earlier text on this page was generic.

Why This Airdrop Matters

The amount is reported inconsistently. Decrypt's first article said the drop covered 700 million DYM, described as 7% of supply, while other sources say 70 million DYM, which matches 7% of 1 billion. The 70 million figure is the arithmetically consistent one. A Blofin report cited The Defiant for a $350 million value.

The "genesis rolldrop" reached users on Solana, Celestia and Ethereum Layer 2 networks such as Arbitrum, Optimism and Base. Eligibility also covered Celestia TIA stakers as of 19 December 2023 and holders of certain NFT collections, including Pudgy Penguins. United States residents could not take part.

Claiming opened in January, and only 528,523 wallets ultimately claimed, which means around half of eligible users left their DYM unclaimed. Unclaimed tokens were redistributed to other users. A RollApp built on Dymension, NIM Network, later ran its own airdrop open to DYM stakers, with a claim window ending on 4 April 2024.

Half of eligible people not claiming shows a basic problem with airdrops: many recipients are not following the project, miss the announcement or cannot work out the steps. A project that sees half of its intended audience miss the claim may be less successful at reaching community members than its headline suggests.

The exclusion of US residents also shows how legal risk shapes airdrops, and that eligibility can depend on where you live as well as what you did.

The recipients who did claim also faced the question of what to do next. A new Cosmos chain with a young token offers staking rewards, but staking locks tokens for an unbonding period and exposes them to slashing if a validator misbehaves. Choosing a validator, reading the unbonding terms and deciding how much to keep liquid are the practical steps that matter more than the size of the drop.

Participation Guide

The claim window has closed. If you claimed, check Dymension's documentation for staking and RollApp-related rewards. Be wary of any page that advertises a "second rolldrop" unless it is on the official channels. Do not sign claims that ask for broader permissions than a single token transfer.
