Coverage describes 250,000 ILV, worth about $25 million, in two parts. 50,000 ILV was reserved for loyal members, with a snapshot taken on 14 April at 23:59 UTC and rewards slated for the second quarter of 2024. Eligibility covered users who had been active in the ecosystem over the previous three years.

Each person's share came from an internal points system that counted staking in ILV or the Sushi liquidity pools, spending in Illuvium Zero Land and on Illuvitars, and trading fees on IlluviDex.

The other 200,000 ILV was for a six-month play-to-airdrop programme. Reports differ on its schedule: one says 20,000 ILV was given out in private beta 4 with 180,000 to follow in the mainnet beta, another says the first 20,000 ILV came at the end of April with a public test by the end of May and 180,000 released gradually over five months.

I did not confirm that every distribution was completed or how it was finally carried out, so check Illuvium's own announcements for the final figures.

Rewarding three years of history helped long-time users, but a points system based on spending also rewards people with larger budgets.

Points systems of this type reward the behaviour a team wants to encourage, here staking, buying Land and trading on its own exchange. That is a legitimate way to build an economy, but it also means a large share of any reward goes to people who spent money inside the game, so casual players and newcomers should expect smaller amounts than the headline figure suggests.
